Paul Hughes ATT, Partner

A serial entrepreneur who studied for his professional qualifications with Deloitte’s. 

As with most people of his age his hopes of making it as a professional footballer or golfer have long since passed, he continues to enjoy playing both sports and watching them when he can wrestle the remote off his two daughters. 

In recent times he has engaged with HMRC, HM Treasury and the Office of Tax Simplification on numerous consultations, most recent being the consultation of Employment Status being run by the OTS.

As Tax Partner in the practice he supports the Taxation Manager and wider practice on a daily basis.

Shaun McGrail FCCA, Partner

Shaun trained and qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant with Deloittes and holds a Practising Certificate issued by the association.

Following qualification, Shaun joined PriceWaterhouseCoopers where he enjoyed a 10 year career before joining SPi in 2005 to head up the accounting side of the firm.

Shaun encourages and supports colleagues to pursue professional development and is a great supporter and advocate of ACCA. He is keen to ensure that SPi Accountancy is a friendly, professional place to work that operates on a culture of inclusivity. 
In his spare time, Shaun enjoys football, golf, cycling and skiing. His daughter recently persuaded him onto an ice skating rink and also a roller skating rink but neither ended well! 

Amanda Evans FCCA, Practice Manager

Amanda has over 8years’ experience in accountancy, and qualified as a Chartered Certified Account in November 2009 with first time passes.

She ensures a high standard of service is delivered to all existing and potential clients of SPi and oversees the day to day running of the practice.

In her spare time she enjoys going for long walks, playing badminton and golf.

Fiona Chandler, Personal Tax Senior

Having worked for I-PAYE for 5 years, gaining extensive knowledge in European tax, Fiona started working for SPi as Personal Tax Manager in July 2013. She is responsible for gathering and collating all relevant information to be declared on our clients’ self-assessment tax returns, both in the UK and Europe and is a general point of contact for those seeking personal tax advice.

Whilst Fiona always dreamed of being the star of River Dance, tax advising came a close 2nd  and she has been working towards her professional exams which she has almost finished. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends both in Liverpool and in her home town of Belfast. 

Kelly Hyde, Account Manager

Kelly joined SPi in April 2013 and came to us with a solid knowledge of Contractors and Limited Company accounts. Acting as a first point of contact, she can assist on any queries, advising on the day to day running of your company. She also looks after SPi clients’ bookkeeping including, invoicing, expenses, bank reconciliations, VAT and PAYE returns.

Kelly is the founder and Chair of Free Cakes for Kids Liverpool , a local volunteer group providing birthday cakes to children whose families could not afford one.

Scott Rogan, Account Manager

Scott joined SPI in November 2014 bringing 10 years of experience in accountancy. Scott is a foundation level qualified ACCA member and is currently studying for his final professional ACCA exam to become fully qualified. 

He is a first point of contact and can assist on any queries advising on the day to day running of your company and looks after his clients bookkeeping including invoicing, expenses, bank reconciliations, VAT and PAYE returns. 

His spare time is spent mostly with his family including two children, Jack and Allie, and he enjoys playing golf in what little spare time is available after that.

Ellen Cantrill, Trainee Accountant

Ellen joined SPi in July 2013 and is studying towards the ACCA qualification after being granted MAAT status in July 2014. 

She is responsible for company setups, company secretarial and bookkeeping amongst other duties.

Ellen also has her own portfolio of clients where she maintains the day to day running of the company including filing requirements for VAT and PAYE.

Her spare time is filled with many interests, amongst which archery and semi-permanent make-up art.

Sue Abel-Beswick, European Business Development Director

Sue works with SPi as part of the Working Alliance with I-PAYE. Sue has worked in I-PAYE and with SPi since 2005 and has in depth knowledge of the issues facing UK Tax Residents working overseas and Overseas Tax Residents working in the United Kingdom. Sue advises some of the largest blue chip agencies and their contractors on their Employment, Taxation and Social obligations in the home and host countries. Her expertise in International Tax and Social Security, supported by her Professional Qualifications in Financial Planning, make Sue an invaluable member of the Team.

A passionate, left-handed golf player, Sue enjoys relaxing on the green in the company of her husband and friends, skiing, and spending time with her family.

Theresa Bryan ACMA GCMA, Management Accountant

Theresa joined SPi in late 2010 having worked for I-PAYE full time since November 2007. Theresa is a qualified member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and is responsible for production and review of accounts on behalf of clients. She also controls the internal finance of SPi and client billings.

In her spare time, Theresa enjoys travelling around the globe and getting involved in at least one sport challenge a year: she runs marathons, and successfully completed the Tough Mudder in 2014. Theresa is also a passionate Tranmere Rovers supporter, and she’s been a season ticket holder for 25 years.

Gemma Dunn, UK Business Development Manager

Having worked with I-PAYE since July 2011 Gemma joined the SPi team in January 2012, bringing her wide experience in account management, payroll, admin and sales.. Her knowledge on AWR and HMRC regulations, together with her strong business development, client management and client acquisition skills are a great addition to the SPi team. Gemma is responsible for starting and nurturing relationships with our Agencies, advising them on which solution is best for them and their contractors.

Gemma mainly spends her spare time in the good company of her family and friends. She loves cooking and relaxing on holiday.

She is also a very competitive sport person, and particularly enjoys horse riding, cycling and running. 

David Dooley, UK Business Manager

David Joined I-PAYE in August 2014 bringing over 2 years’ experience in Business Development in the financial services industry (Barclaycard).

His knowledge of sales, product and relationship management, and client acquisition make him the Business Manager we needed to complete our winning Business Development Team. 

As Business Manager David manages the day to day communications with our agencies clients, nurturing and strengthening our relationships with them.

David is also a keen footballer and enjoys socialising with friends and family in his spare time.

Natalie Walsh, UK Business Manager

Natalie joined our Business Development Team in 2014 as Business Manager. 

She has a background within the Financial Services Industry, and brings extensive experience and knowledge in Client Account Management and Relationship Management. 

As Business Manager, Natalie is the main point of contact for our Agency clients, responsible for day to day client management along with building and maintaining strong, lasting relationships.

Natalie enjoys relaxing in her spare time, long dog walks and spending time with her family and friends as much as possible.
